How can I help my child feel comfortable during orthodontic appointments?
There are several things you can do to help your child feel comfortable during orthodontic appointments. We recommend to bring their favorite comfort toy or blanket and speak about the appointment in positive terms. You can also ask the orthodontist if your child can listen to music or watch a video during treatment to help them relax. We also provide sensory toys for children who fidget in the chair.
Will my child need to wear their braces longer than usual?
Depending on your child's unique case and needs, some children with special needs may need to wear their braces longer to get the desired results. This is dependent on how well they manage their braces and oral hygiene. Our team is experienced in treating children with special needs and will provide guidance for your child's individual needs so they can maximize their treatment.
Can orthodontic treatment impact my child's sensory sensitivities?
Orthodontic treatment can involve a lot of sensory input, such as pressure on the teeth, tongue, and cheeks, and vibrations from the orthodontic tools. This can be overwhelming for some children with sensory sensitivities. We will work with you to find ways to minimize discomfort and sensory overload during treatment.
